Lyrics

Imagine, if you will, a moonlit desert highway
Like a black & winding ribbon underneath the midnight blue
All’s quiet but the drone of the rubber meeting road
The land is dark and desolate and with a mystery imbued

Surely, this is the right way; you know the roadmap says it’s so
But the night spawns apprehension and doubt begins to grow
It might be best to turn around – go back from where we came
After all, that’s familiar ground, without the threat of unknown rain
But wait…

There’s a City on the Hill; high & shining there
With the promise of a resting place from the burdens that we bear
This road will take us there if we can find it in our will
To brave the palisades up to the City on the Hill

For so long we’ve been yearning to get loose from these chains
But the darkness only seems to deepen with each rebellion that we wage
In our thirst we have been humbled before the Ancient One of Days
Have we not suffered for our trouble? Can He not save us from our ways?
Yes…

There’s a City on the Hill; high & shining there
With the promise of a resting place from the burdens that we bear
This road will take us there if we can find it in our will
To brave the palisades up to the City on the Hill

As the path begins to climb you can feel the warmer air
And we’re drawn to go inside as the city gate appears
With our faces streaked with tears
After wasting all these years…

There’s a City on the Hill; high & shining there
With the promise of a resting place from the burdens that we bear
This road will take us there if we can find it in our will
To brave the palisades up to the City on the Hill
